Ancient Impact Glass from the Sahara Desert
About this stone
Libyan Desert Glass is a rare natural glass that was created about 29 million years ago when a meteor exploded over the Sahara Desert between Egypt and Libya. The heat was so strong that it melted the desert sand and turned it into this beautiful golden glass.
It’s made of almost pure silica, the same element found in quartz. The color goes from soft yellow to light green, and every piece is completely unique.
Fun fact: the scarab in King Tutankhamun’s jewelry was carved from this same desert glass.
